Anytime Fitness Coming to West Broadway!

Post and photo by the Hawthorne Hawkman.

The title and photo pretty much say it all.  Suffice to say, I will be transferring my membership the day this opens around the corner from Penn and Broadway.

Hopefully I get to say this with great frequency, but I told you this part of north Minneapolis is turning around.

  1. I don't have Twitter but a suggestion. Don't write you posts in Blogger. Write them in MS Word, then copy and paste into Blogger, inserting photos and links.

  3. I hope this encourages the opening of a little bistro/fresh food cafe nearby for gym members needing a salad or smoothie after working out.

  4. Whoa! I just read about this in the Strib. It's being opened by the chiropractor next door.
While I'm sure it will serve the community, it's just another way for chiropractors to scam insurance. Several chiropractors have incorporated these type of gyms into their clinics. The huge multi DC clinics can afford to buy the Cybex type gym equipment. But the small chiropractic clinics used to send patients to a physical therapist for a small "referral fee". Now they have discovered that having an Anytime Fitness franchise is a new way to make money. It's a great way to funnel money into their practice, while saving the costs of buying the equipment.
What happens is that the chiropractors prescribe "physical therapy" to their patients, and where do they go to get it? At their very own Anytime Fitness (or Snap Fitness or whatever)right next door to the clinic. And since it's "physical therapy" the chiropractor can bill the insurance company for the costs.
Before you get all excited about this, let's remember that chiropractic insurance scams cost all of us with increased premiums.
I bet you a weeks pay that many of the gym users will be patients of the clinic next door.
    Please prove me wrong.

  6. @Anon 6:41, a recent Strib article said she hoped to have it open by the end of the year. When it was first proposed, I had heard the goal was by September or October. Bureaucratic hurdles are probably lengthening that process though.

@Ted, why should I worry about proving you wrong? North Minneapolis has zero fitness centers for adults and West Broadway has something like fifteen fast food joints. Another Strib article estimated that over 60% of Americans will be obese by 2030.I would argue that we NEED places like this in our community, and if Dr. Watson has figured out a way to make it happen.

There are plenty of legitimate cases too, where someone needs physical therapy, goes to a chiropractor, and patronizes a gym.
