As I was driving home from work this evening, I went past a vacant property in Hawthorne and spotted what looked like an official notice of some sort posted by the door. Was it a foreclosure notice? Water/gas shutoff? Winterizing notification? What kind of
regulatory plumage awaited?
Imagine my surprise when instead, I saw...
Someone (I have my guesses as to which neighborhood history buff would post this) put up a neat tidbit about what happened at this house many years ago. The text reads:
(From
the Minneapolis Journal Nov. 30th 1904) The wedding of Miss Julia
Johnson and George Shackelford took place at last evening in Richfield
Hall which was decorated in pink and white. A string orchestra played
the "Lohengrin" chorus as the bridal party entered. Miss Ada Tuttle in a
white gown and carrying pink roses was maid of honor. The bride was in
cream viole trimmed with lace and she held bride roses. The bridegroom
and his best man, Herman Bates waited the coming of the bride under the
canopy of foilage where the service was read by P.A. Cool in the
presence of 200 guests. A supper followed and the tables were bright
with ribbons and roses. Mr. and Mrs. Shackelford will be at home after
January 1st at 2914 4th St N.

This is one of the prettiest houses in the neighborhood!

John, our fellow blogger over at Hammers and High Heels was interviewed to be part of that documentary, I think she blogged about having the camera crew and host at her house. Sounds like their segment was cut. But the doc will air Sunday night I believe.
