Mobile Camera Placed at 25th Ave N and 4th St N

Post and photos by the Hawthorne Hawkman.

A common refrain among residents living in or near a problematic area is often, "If everyone knows drug dealing happens there, then why don't they just park a squad car on the corner all day long?"  Over the past two weeks, the MPD has done almost exactly that.  This blogger and other neighbors have seen multiple squad cars from the Minneapolis Police Department and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department camped out on 25th and 4th.  The cameras appear to be pointed directly at the 300 block of 25th Ave N, and are doing a great job of keeping at least that area relatively quiet.

I got out and did a quick drive around the area at about midnight tonight, and there were maybe two houses where people were hanging out.  One was 2416 4th St N, mentioned in the comment thread of the previous blog post on this topic.  The numbers of people weren't alarming and nothing obviously wrong was happening, so no 911 calls were logged.

4th St is quieting down, at least for the time being.  Let's hope it stays that way.

  1. Thanks for the report HH, its gratifying to know someone is on the watch for people sitting on the porch in the summertime.

  2. Word from the 4th Precinct is that the stretch on 4th St from Broadway to 26th, and a few side streets, is considered a "no tolerance zone." Anything from open-air deals of drugs or prostitution all the way down to loitering warrants 911 calls. Anyone who agrees with the spirit of the "we watch, we call" signs, please take a turn off of Broadway and zip through 4th St on your way through NoMi, and call 911 on anything remotely suspicious.

  3. @ Anonymous 10:58. Cheap shots and snarky comments from trolls are so old (yawn). I am glad that Jeff is bringing some attention to this location as there is some pretty serious stuff going on. Literally people are getting shot. Maybe that isn't troubling to you, but just last week we had a bloody, injured person (from gunshot) stumble onto the steps of a neighbor's house at the corner of our block. This is scary stuff. It's easy to be a troll. Not as easy to be a resident of 4th Street N when this kind of stuff is happening.

  4. I think if the camera records anything interesting the 4th Precinct should just go right ahead and put it on YouTube.
